Gurgaon to host workshop on urban farming

In an attempt to bring farmers and urban consumers together, the state government is organising a two-day workshop starting November 29 at the Apparel House in Sector 44 on peri urban farming techniques — consisting farming in vacant plots and small areas, including balconies.

According to the district horticulture officials, the idea is to ensure that the people living in the urban areas have access to fresh vegetables, poultry and dairy products and at the same time the interest of the farmers are also considered. An announcement about the same was made by the Haryana agriculture minister Om Prakash Dhankar in Gurgaon on Sunday.

"Our objective is to ensure that farming is done in and around the cities as per the requirements of the urban consumers, and at the same time consumers should ensure that farmers get their due," said Dhankar.

The minister called on the youth to attend the workshop to better understand the nuances of urban farming.
