The Relevance of Wetland Conservation in Kerala

Kerala has the largest proportion of land area under wetlands among all the states of India, changes to which can significantly affect ecosystem processes. Compared to other states of the country, wetlands in Kerala and hills are under threat because of developmental activities. Wetlands are being reclaimed with soil extracted from leveling of hillocks. These indiscriminate activities will have a serious negative impact on the entire ecological system.
