Economic Growth, Labour Markets and Gender in Japan

The questions that the paper tries to address are: what happened to women’s labour force participation with the process of economic development; what kind of returns of economic growth did women in the labour force receive with economic growth; and what social and cultural barriers and institutional policies actually hindered this process.
