Quality of Women’s Employment: A Focus on the South
Published By: International Labour Organization | Published Date: January, 01 , 2004This paper is a theoretical discussion and literature survey, which examines themes, related to quality of women’s employment in the South Asian and African regions. To do so the following issues are explored further. What are the key determinants that influence the links between gender and employment quality? Which institutional and economic factors increase women’s participation in the labour force, and what is its relationship to quality of employment opportunities available? In the geographical areas under consideration this means that an examination of informal sector activity is of paramount importance. Addressing these issues will set the stage to investigate measures to reduce low-quality employment, sometimes from unionisedlabour and at other instances from consumer groups. This exercise will bring out some emerging themes of the importance on enhancing the quality of women’s work.
