Interlinked Agrarian Credit Markets in a Developing Economy: A Case Study of Indian Punjab
Published By: DSA on eSS | Published Date: December, 22 , 2006This paper attempts to analyse the various aspects of informal rural credit
market of which interlinked contracts occupy the central place. In particular, the nature and extent of interlinked credit contracts, collateral requirement, purpose of loan, rates of interest charged in such transactions, etc. are dealt with. The gap between demand for credit and supply of formal/institutional credit has also been worked out, in an attempt to explain the purveyance of informal lenders, their ruthless and exploitative practices notwithstanding.
