President Pranab Mukherjee's Opening Speech in Parliament on Budget Session

Indian President Pranab Mukherjee said at the opening of the budget session of Parliament on Monday that the government was committed to developing India in a way that lifts up everyone in the country’s economically diverse population. “The fundamental tenet of my government is all together, development of all,” Mr. Mukherjee said in his address to the joint upper and lower houses of India’s Parliament. Mr. Mukherjee, who is the symbolic head of state, touched upon topics as varied as improving women’s safety and tackling corruption, to toilets, yoga, India’s Mars mission and legal aid reform which he said was “one of the priorities of the government.”
