Labour Market Transitions of Young Women and Men in Bangladesh
Published By: International Labour Office | Published Date: June, 01 , 2014During the last decade, Bangladesh maintained a stable growth rate of around 6 per cent, and gross domestic product (GDP) doubled in the period 2000–12. Unfortunately, economic growth has not translated well into an expansion of decent and productive jobs. In recent years, the Government of Bangladesh has been active in developing policies to promote youth employment. As the challenges are many and cut across several policy dimensions, measures focus on both supply and demand, and are curative as well as preventative. This report is intended for the policy-makers and social partners that concern themselves with the implementation of youth-related policies and programmes. The report also draws attention to the path and duration that young people’s transition from school to work takes and draws conclusions on characteristics or experiences that make for a smoother transition.
