Women and Labour Markets in Asia: Rebalancing for Gender Equality

Published By: International Labour Organization | Published Date: April, 29 , 2011

The report is a joint undertaking by the ADB and the ILO’s Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, reflecting the high-level commitment of both organizations to gender equality in the region, as an economic and social investment that will generate enormous dividends for sustainable development in the region. This joint report looks at prevailing gender-related patterns in employment and the labour market, and inequalities that both pre-date and have resulted from the economic crisis. It highlights the economic and social costs of continuing gender inequalities and cautions that some crisis recovery measures may actually be making women more vulnerable. The report suggests strategies and policy recommendations to correct gender-related vulnerabilities and exploitation.
