Taming Food Inflation in India

High food inflation, which has averaged 10% during FY 2008-09 to December 2012, has been a major concern for policy makers in India. This is all the more important as an average household in India still spends almost half of its expenditure on food, and poor households spend even more than 60% on food (as per the Report on Key Indicators of Household expenditures in India, 2009-2010, NSS 66th Round, 2011).
