Socio-economic Exclusion of Different Religious Communities in Meghalaya

Published By: NEHU on eSS | Published Date: May, 10 , 2011

Meghalaya is one of the prosperous states in the North Eastern region of India. Before Meghalaya was separated from Assam in the early 1970’s, its leading city, Shillong, was the capital of the erstwhile Assam. The multi-ethnic, multi-religion and multi-lingual forces operating in Meghalaya cut across each other and shape the overall social, political and economic landscape of the state. This paper intends to examine as to how the emerging socio-economic landscape has been inclusive with regard to different religious communities inhabiting Meghalaya.
