REalisation of 'Self'n Vijay Tendulkar's 'Kamala'
Published By: PNDWC on eSS | Published Date: May, 09 , 2009In India, today too, majority of educated women are unaware of their true self and still stuck in the process of self realisation. Moreover, there are some women who are aware of their self, their rights and degraded status but still they take little action in this regard. This confused and pathetic condition of modern educated Indian women is rightly presented through the character of Sarita by Vijay Tendulkar in his play ‘Kamala’.Tendulkar criticised orthodox Indian Middle Class society and tried to present the impact of indubitable acceptance of so called social values, customs, traditions and conventions on Indian Women. In the present play he focuses on social institutions like marriage, politics and ‘blood thirsty’ journalism.
