Feeding Southeast Asia: Mekong River Fisheries and Regional Food Security
Published By: IRN on eSS | Published Date: September, 08 , 2010This paper reviews the available literature that links regional food security to the
Mekong River’s wild capture fisheries, and argues for recognition of the existing
contribution that the fisheries make to regional development. With a focus on the
proposed Mekong mainstream dams, it explores how decision-making on large water
infrastructure should be strengthened by appropriately recognizing and accounting for
basin-wide environmental, social and cultural considerations, in addition to economic
factors.
