Infrastructure Financing in South Asia
Published By: Asian Development Bank Institute (ADB) | Published Date: September, 25 , 2018This paper discusses public and private sector financing of infrastructure, and examines the factors driving infrastructure investment in this subregion. Using a panel of three large South Asian countries, namely, Bangladesh, India, and Sri Lanka, the paper finds that the stage of economic development, market size, access to finance, and the quality of institutions are the key determinants of total private and overall infrastructure investment. The results also reinforce the importance of a supportive enabling environment (better policies, institutions, and regulations) for private sector participation in infrastructure.
