Published By: UNDP | Published Date: April, 01 , 2009Internal displacement continued in many countries to result from failures by parties to armed conflicts to respect the rights of civilian populations, including by taking necessary steps to prevent displacement. Some 4.6 million people were forced to flee their homes as a result of new outbreaks of conflict and violence. Ten countries experienced new largescale displacements of 200,000 people or more.
