Textile and Clothing Trade with European Union: Impact of year-old EU Generalised System of Preferences

Taking into account the latest data of exports of textiles and clothing to the European Union from South Asia and China, a year-end assessment of the impact of the Generalised System of Preferences (GSP) introduced by the EU in January last. Despite loss of GSP benefit on textiles, Indian exports of both textiles and clothing have risen, helped by quantitative restrictions on China’s exports and partly because of Pakistan losing duty free access earlier available under a Special Drugs Regime.
