State Level Reform and Role of Research

The need for research and information collection not just at the national level but at the state-level has never been so great. In other words, data collected at State will be basic constituents in such framework. And yet, there is little importance given to state-level research within the RBI. The attempt to bring out a Handbook of Statistics of Tamil Nadu by DEAP, RBI Chennai is welcome. This practice adopted in other states will be a first step for the reform agenda.
