Pakistan and Afghanistan: Understanding Islamabad’s Objectives and Strategies

This is further reinforced by the conflicts in Afghanistan for the past three decades, where Pakistan’s involvement was critical in Afghanistan. Besides, the porous border region of Afghanistan-Pakistan is predominantly inhabited by the Pashtun tribes. Further, the close proximity of Pakistan when compared with the other neighbours of Afghanistan is of importance.
