Poverty alleviation has been a pre-eminent goal of India’s development efforts since its Independence. Though there has been a significant decline in the incidence of poverty at the national level in India, there are several concerns that take away the shine from this achievement. This analysis is however constrained by the fact that there is considerable limitation of data. The Government of India estimates the incidence of poverty.
