Trafficking of Women into Hong Kong for the Purpose of Prostitution: Preliminary Research Findings

Published By: HKU on eSS | Published Date: February, 11 , 2001

The trafficking of women for the purposes of prostitution into certain parts of Asia, in particular into Thailand, India and Japan, is now relatively well-documented. However, there is very little information available on the trafficking of women into Hong Kong. This study is an attempt to correct that, although, given the “hidden” nature of the problem and the time and difficulties involved in obtaining primary information, it must be regarded very much as a preliminary study, but one which is intended to provide the foundation for further work in the future.
