Context and Dynamics of Civil Society in the 21st Century

The gap between the world of knowledge and the world of action, although perennial, is probably the widest in the area of development. In no other field is there such a sharp divergence between rational statements about what is objectively possible to achieve, about the direction in which developmental change should take place and the real-life processes that criss-cross the lines of development and non-development, change and status quo. And, paradoxically, it is in the area of development that the justification of knowledge is often sought through action.
