Research Base for Control of IDDs
Published By: | Published Date: November, 28 , 2005While technologies are crucial and necessary for public health, scientific rigour cannot be compromised to promote unproven technologies. The search for evidence has to retain the essence of the scientific method if it is to meaningfully contribute to determining priorities and assessing the impact of interventions. The on-going debate on the extent of iodine deficiency disease (IDD), in the context of a national strategy for its control, offers a good example of why we need objectivity in the practice of science. This note critically examines the National Institute of Nutrition (NIN)'s recently conducted survey raises methodological issues.
