Debating with the Ideology of Globalisation

Published By: eSS Mumbai, India | Published Date: March, 13 , 2008

In this paper the authors share their experience in attempting to critically engage a set of young persons on their understanding of the present regime of globalisation through a semester-long course called Globalisation, State and Corporations to a class of mostly senior undergraduate students majoring in science and technology in an elite technology university in India. The course attempted to bring out the disparities between the claims made by the proponents of ‘globalisation’ and the reality; moreover, considerable class time was spent discussing and debating the alternatives to the present regime of globalisation to take the critical analysis further. the authors' basic contention here is that the debate was primarily ideological in nature.
