Consultation Paper on Issues Relating to Mobile Television Service

Published By: TRAI on eSS | Published Date: September, 18 , 2007

The key to making mobile TV a reality lies in combining traditional broadcast standards with features specific to handheld devices: mobility, smaller screens and antennas, indoor coverage, and reliance on battery power. In India, Doordarshan, a public service broadcaster, has already launched its mobile TV service in Delhi. Acting on a request from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting TRAI has posted this consultation paper for public discussion. The paper suggests, among other things that the regulation of carriage and content should be separated and has recommended greater flexibility in spectrum allocation to take full advantage of new services and new technologies for existing services that may evolve with time.
