HIGHER EDUCATION SERVICES IN THE NEW GLOBAL ECONOMY: OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES FOR INDIA
India is liberalizing its higher education services. Private investment is increasingly being welcomed in the sector and foreign direct investment is also invited. The liberalization however poses certain issues which has been debated in India. One is issue of hegemony and the is issue of regulatory challenge. These issues have been examined in light of history of education in India, Indian values and the current position of higher education in the country. The paper then highlights some of the regulatory reforms that the government is bringing in view of the current liberalization process.
