Jawaharlal Nehru University has tied up with Busan University of Foreign Studies(BUFS), Republic of Korea to jointly organise programmes under its first 'Academia-Industry Initiative' undertaken by BUFS and the Centre for Korean Studies, School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies.

This 4-week special programme consists of various academic and cultural activities of the Korean students who have been learning Hindi in Korea and the Indian students who have been learning Korean language at JNU.

ABOUT THE PROGRAMME:

The programme offers students a first hand experience to learn about Indian society, culture, economy, history and literature through various academic and cultural activities like language exchange classes (tandem), special lectures from JNU as well as from the corporate world, visiting Korean factory and companies, mock interview for jobs etc. The group will comprise selected students from BUFS and JNU.

PROFESSORS WHO ATTENDED THE EVENT ARE:

The inaugural programme was attended by dignitaries from India and Korea including M Jagadesh Kumar, the Vice-Chancellor; Rajendra Dengle, the Dean of School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies; Prof. Girish Nath Jha, Director, International Collaboration; Dr. Rupesh Chaturvedi, Director, Research and Development; Dr. Dhananjay Singh, Associate Dean of Students; Prof. Vyjayanti Raghavan, Chairperson, Centre for Korean Studies, and Prof. P.A. George, Chairperson, Centre for Japanese Studies from JNU.

HERE'S WHAT VICE CHANCELLOR PROF. M JAGADESH KUMAR SAID:

It was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Prof. M. Jagadesh Kumar on January 4, 2018.  In the inaugural remarks, the vice chancellor emphasised on exploring such innovative methods to optimise practical learning opportunities for the students. He congratulated the organisers for the initiative and hoped that students from Korea will be able to learn more about Indian culture and society through original sources like that of Hindi and Sanskrit texts. He hoped that the programme will also expand the scope of such cooperation and be extended to the other students as well as in other area of studies. 

Dr. Ravikesh, the programme director, highlighted the unique features of the programme and discussed about significance of this programme in enhancing their language skills and boosting the job prospects for the students. The inaugural programme was concluded with vote of thanks by Satyanshu Srivastava, Assistant Professor at the Centre.
