Scheme workers in India stage nationwide strike for demands

Following the joint call of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) and ten major labour unions of the country, lakhs of scheme workers staged one-day nationwide strike on Wednesday.
Hundreds of Anganwadi workers and assistance, ASHA-USHA and those concerned with Mid-Day Meal schemes attended the day-long strike at Priyadarshini Garden, Civic Centre to pressurise the State Government to fulfill their demands.

The scheme workers concerned with Anganwadi, ASHA, USHA, mid-day meal and other schemes after staging strike, carried out a massive procession upto Collectorate to handover the memorandum enlisted with their demands to the Collector addressing to the Prime Minister of India and State’s Chief Minister.
Vidya Khangar from Aganwadi Union while addressing the huge gathering of agitating workers criticised the governments at the Centre and States for betraying them.

Khangar said that despite giving sincere services, the ASHA/USHA and Anganwadi workers always remain unable to arrange better facilities for their families. Their limited salaries failed to match the hiking inflation as a result, their children could not avail quality education, proper clothing and foods.

It may be mentioned that the ASHA/USHA, Aganwadi workers/assistants and those concerned with Mid-Day Meal staged one-day nation-wide strike with the demands to consider labour status for them following the directives issued during 45th Session of Indian Labour Conference, minimum salary of Rs. 18,000, Provident Fubd, Gratuity, ESI minimum pension of Rs. 3000, benefits of social security scheme, allotment of sufficient fund under the head of Central Budget of the year 2018-19 for proper implementation of these schemes and ban on privatization of these departments.
Except government-supported organisations, all the labour organization of the country joined their hands in support of above demands. Vidya Khangar from Agawadi Union, Shashi Prabha Yadav, Asha Sailani, Kala Kushwaha, Mani Rajput, Savitri Kushwaha, Deepa Bhardwaj also addressed the striking workers.
