Challenges in Implementation of Large-scale IT Projects

Most governments experience problems when implementing large-scale IT projects. Budgets are exceeded, deadlines are over-run and the quality of the infrastructure is often below the agreed standard. These problems threaten to undermine efforts to implement the National e-Governance plan and pose great political risks. Ministers and governments are held accountable for such failures and the accompanying waste of taxpayer’s money. These significant economic losses amount not only to outright waste in terms of exceeded budgets and abandoned projects, but also – and equally importantly – to lost opportunities for enhanced effectiveness and efficiency.
