SG 50 and Beyond: Protecting the Public Space in the New Era of Singaporean Pluralism

Over the last ten years or so it have begun to see public lobbying over moral and cultural issues such as lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual (LGBT) rights, Sanctity of Life issues including abortion, the death penalty and euthanasia and others like the decision to build integrated resorts or the ban on wearing the hijab in certain uniformed professions. Singaporean society is facing a new era of political pluralism without the guidance of pre-established principles and norms for dealing with this value plurality in a civil and productive way.
